Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, described on Tuesday how his campaign was targeted in Katsina State.
Obi’s campaign team was in Katsina State on Monday, according to Naija News, to seek support for his presidential bid.
During his campaign speech, Obi promised to combat insecurity if elected president in 2023.
The Obi/Datti presidential campaign council, in a statement issued through its Head of Media, Diran Onifade, condemned the attack on Obi and his campaign team.
“Our candidate had met with ladies in a town hall and then staged a highly successful Rally at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium,” according to the statement. However, on his route to the airport, hoodlums pelted our candidate’s automobile with large stones from the driver’s side, causing significant damage to the vehicle.
“To God’s glory, Mr Obi and the other occupants of the car were unharmed. Following that, another group of thugs flung stones outside the stadium, damaging many vehicles, including those of our official stage crew.”
He speculated that the incident could have been carried out by politicians who believe they have control of the northwest but are surprised by Obi’s presence there.
Onifade, who praised the people of the state for coming out in large numbers, urged security officials to examine the attacks in order to prevent similar occurrences.
